Chapter 5. Identity Discrimination In Employment - Household Registration And Regional Origin

Abstract

Identity discrimination has frequently become a focus of society's attention. Discrimination based on regional origin and household registration means using regional background or household registration, which usually have no bearing on the nature of the job, as conditions for employment, rather than a worker's ability to work or the requirements of a specialist technical post. In order to raise local employment rates regional governments use all available measures to impose macro-controls on migrants employed in their city, so that more employment opportunities are left open for local people. There are four specific means of restricting migrants in employment such as controlling the number of migrant labourers and restricting the industries and jobs open to migrants. A remuneration package is the compensation that workers receive for their work. It includes salary and other welfare benefits provided by the employer.
