Abstract

Abstract In this review, some recent progress concerning the direct and inverse problems in the theory of light scattering are discussed. The basic theory of light scattering is presented within the accuracy of the first-order Born approximation, and the properties of the scattered field are studied. The scattering medium may be either isotropic or anisotropic, and the incident light wave can be scalar or electromagnetic. In addition, the application of light scattering to the determination of the structure of the scattering medium is discussed.
