Abstract

Vehicle responses to the lateral disturbance forces exerted on the vehicle center of gravity (CG) and to the side winds are dealt with. The vehicle steady state and transient responses to the lateral forces applied on CG are investigated using the equations of motion introduced in Chapter 3 with deep insight into the effects of the forces on the vehicle motion. It is shown that the vehicle responses to the disturbance are dependent on the vehicle steer characteristics, which are characterized by cross-coupling aspect of side slip and yaw motion during vehicle motion to the lateral force disturbance on CG. The effects of the side wind on the vehicle motion are also investigated using the equations of motion to find that the responses to the side wind are characterized by the relative longitudinal positions of aerodynamic center and neutral steer point.
