Abstract

Underground space can be divided into different categories according to its end use: space intended for use by the general public, traffic space, technical maintenance facilities, industrial and production facilities, and special-use facilities. Depth-wise feasible locations of different underground facilities have been discussed. With technical advancement, the forms of underground space are also changing. Accordingly, the future form of underground space has also been highlighted. Including the cost aspect, in general, planning aspects of underground space are presented. Design charts have been presented for predicting tunneling conditions and the support system.
