Abstract
This chapter analyzes significant decarbonization that goes hand in hand with recent technological developments both putting a strong emphasis on the changes on power markets and the development of smart grids which are playing an increasingly important role in the development of these markets. It discusses the growing importance and role of renewable energy sources in the world economy and at the electricity markets worldwide.
