Abstract

This chapter deals with conditions that affect the orbit and includes a discussion of the anatomy, clinical features and investigations of these patients. It is divided into three main sections: thyroid eye disease, infectious and inflammatory conditions and orbital tumours. The clinical presentation, investigation and treatment of thyroid eye disease and infective and non-infective inflammatory diseases are discussed. Cysts and orbital tumours are categorized according to the primary tissue affected: vascular, lacrimal gland, neural tumours, lymphoma and rhadomyosarcoma. The histopathology and radiological findings associated with these diseases are covered. The management of the anophthalmic socket and craniosynostoses is included in this chapter.
