Abstract

Individuals with congenital heart disease (CHD) are at increased risk of neurologic complications across the lifespan. From delayed brain maturation to acquired brain injury, these complications contribute to long-term neurologic morbidity, which has become increasingly evident as most children born with complex CHD requiring early cardiac surgery now survive into adulthood. Recognition and appropriate intervention are important to optimize functional outcomes. This chapter addresses the various neurologic abnormalities seen in children with CHD and provides available management strategies.
