Abstract

The circulating fluidized bed boiler (CFB boiler) is the second-generation fluidized bed boiler, the updated version of the bubbling fluidized bed boiler (BFB boiler). In this chapter, fundamental concepts of fluidized beds (including the definition and characteristics of “fluidized bed,” basic CFB boiler structure, several types of CFB boilers, and notable characteristics of CFB boilers) are introduced. After that, convective heat transfer and radiative heat transfer in a gas-solid two-phase flow are described in detail. Finally, the method for calculating heat transfer in a fluidized bed is introduced. Both the influence of heating surface structure/size on the heat transfer and the gas side heat transfer coefficient in a CFB boiler are considered.
