Abstract

The effect of ACTH/MSH-like peptides on functional recovery from unilateral labyrinthine lesions was investigated in Ranu temporaria. The ACTH fragments ACTH 4-7 , ACTH 4-10 , ACTH 1-10 , αMSH and the synthetic ACTH analogues ORG-2766 and ORG-5041 significantly accelerate the compensation process.[D-Phe7]ACTH 4-10 inhibits compensation. ACTH 1-39 , ACTH 1-34 72 MSH-given in equimolar doses - do not influence the rate of compensation. The effects of these peptides on a lesion-induced plastic process are similar to those which they exert on various learning and memory processes.
