Abstract
The impacts of ‘harmful algal bloom’ (HAB) species on finfish and shellfish aquaculture were reviewed by specific studies available in historical literatures. The number of harmful algal species and blooms have increased globally over the past several decades and their impacts on aquatic organisms are profound. This chapter provides an updated account of HAB species, and several aquatic organisms affected by toxic species are highlighted because of their economic importance in mariculture.
