Abstract

The United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF)–Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE) project is on track to meet its commitments to blanket test all wells in 45 upazilas (sub districts), in the known “hot spot” areas, within the current Government of Bangladesh (GoB)–UNICEF five year Master Plan of Operations that represents 10% of the country and 20% of the “hot spot”upazilas. The challenge is to continue to advise, apart from doing work, to help people obtain a safe and sustainable water supply. This will involve continuous communication to create awareness so that people do not consume arsenic (As)-contaminated water and to share safe sources so that people do not install new hand pumps without due care.
