Abstract
This chapter briefly discusses the security and privacy architecture. Security and privacy of user, application, device, and network resources and data are increasingly important areas of network architecture and design. Security is integrated within all areas of the network and impacts all other functions in the network. For the proper functioning of security within a network, it is crucial that the relationships among security mechanisms, as well as between the security architecture and other component architectures, should be understood. This chapter provides review of various security mechanisms (such as physical security, protocol and application security, encryption/decryption, and perimeter and remote access security), how to determine the relationships both among these mechanisms and between security and the other architectural components, and how to develop the security architecture. It also discusses the elements of both internal and external relationships for the security architecture.
