Abstract

SUMMARY This paper discusses the clinical, psychodynamic approach to understanding the internal God-image. Such an approach reveals the ways in which these internal images are rooted in and linked to the person's developmental history and their character and personality style. The works of Freud, Rizzuto (and its grounding in the theories of Fairbairn and Winnicott), Spero, and their utilization by other writers are discussed and evaluated in some detail. Theological and pastoral implications of this work are also alluded to here.
