Abstract

This chapter offers a discussion on the powder metallurgy route for the production of high-entropy alloys (HEAs). In the powder metallurgy route, the constitutional elements are mixed in their solid state. The selection of the elemental powder composition and the mixing of this elemental powder are also important and are mostly done by mechanical alloying. Mechanical alloying is a solid-state powder mixing and processing technique. Solid powder particles are synthesized in a variety of alloy phases in a high-energy ball mill. In order to attain homogeneous microstructures in HEAs, the powder metallurgy process, which includes mechanical alloying and the consequent consolidation process - spark plasma sintering, hot processing, cold processing, and sintering process, is efficient in terms of time, material, and energy.
