Abstract

This chapter discusses the relevance of having a solid philosophical foundation in Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy and Learning (EFPL) and introduces the reader to the philosophical concepts of phenomenology and embodied authenticity. Drawing from the works of Merleau-Ponty and Martin Buber, the author presents these philosophical concepts in an accessible way. This chapter draws on existentialist philosophies of embodiment and the phenomenology of animal life, and how this is integrated within the Human-Equine Relational Development approach of EFPL.
