Chapter 3 - Impact of environmental and marine pollution on seaweed farming

Abstract

The impact of seaweed farming on the environment has received much attention in recent years. However, the impact of environmental and marine pollution on seaweed farming has not received a similar kind of attention. The limited discussion available is essentially a subset of some other study and at times lacks depth and completeness in terms of discussion. It is with an intention to fill this void that the chapter aims to discuss the impact of the environment and marine pollution on seaweed farming. This discussion is considered relevant as marine and environmental pollution has increased in recent years across the world to an extent that it has forced the United Nations to address environmental deterioration due to human influence through seven of the 17 sustainable development goals.
