Abstract
This chapter looks at the experience of early career librarians. In today’s workforce, many (but not all) early career librarians will be from the Millennial generation. Given that the growth of library jobs has been slower than predicted, the first significant challenge for the new librarian is to secure a position. Once hired, there are both opportunities and challenges for a novice librarian. There are also many sources of support. This chapter points to resources for additional support. For new academic librarians, not only is there the challenge of learning their new job, but also that of navigating the tenure and promotion process.
