Abstract
Biomolecular analysis through bioelectrochemical systems (BES’s) has profound wastewater monitoring applications, toxic compounds, and analytes detection. BES-based biosensors also do not need the transducer in robust sensing analysis and also facilitate easy integration with the microfluidic and 3D-printing platforms. The positive attributes make BES-based biosensing a topic of concern for the present book chapter. As a part of this, we have put forth the positive characteristics of BES-based biosensors over the existing detection systems (Voltammetric/Amperometric, Potentiometric, and Impedimetric). The chapter also discusses the applications of BES- based biosensors in wastewater quality monitoring and cell analysis along with the fabrication technologies. Finally, the new envisaged technology prospects have been discussed for further advancement in the research domain. Overall, the chapter remains a valuable treasure for the research community engaged in the BES-based sensing component.
