Abstract
This chapter deep dives into the new TDM-PON standards, e.g., IEEE 802.3ca 25/50G-EPON and FSAN/ITU-T SG15/Q2 G.sup.HSP (HSP refers to higher speed PON), in terms of their motivations, specifications (with the emphasis on physical layer), timelines, and the latest statuses. These standards generate broad interests among Internet Service Providers (ISPs), system and component vendors, and represent general consensus among those industry groups as the evolution path toward the next generation TDM-PON-based optical access networks.
