Abstract

This chapter deals with the biomass combustion modeling. The objective of this chapter is to examine the applicability of the present models to wood, straw, and paper waste and to provide ways to improve their accuracy. The chapter illustrates that there have been considerable developments in combustion models for fossil fuels that are used for design purposes by means of CFD modeling of combustors in power stations. As a result it is now possible to predict combustion behavior in complex power station furnaces. Biomass is now being used as a fuel in similar circumstances and at present, there are no accurate models available. Finally, the chapter concludes that this information can provide useful insights into the methodology of blending of biomass and coal for co-firing applications.
