Abstract

Though the ancient world had plenty of belief in the importance of virtue for regulating society, they had much less faith in how to achieve it. These tendencies of the ancient world have reappeared in the modern world. The major difference between America and the Third World is that America is an individualistic land where individual hysterias may coalesce, but rarely mass hysteria. The change in social conditions from those of the 18th century for good and for ill, the increased wealth of both the nation and individuals, but the weakening of feelings of social solidarity is stark. Max Weber at the beginning of the twentieth century became noted for building upon the simplicities of Marxist analysis in order to fill in what they left out.Keywords: Max Weber's analysis; modern world
