Abstract
Computer-based clinical decision support (CDS) systems could help foster the practice of genomic and personalized medicine on a widespread scale. Already, substantial progress has been made on using CDS to facilitate clinical decision making informed by family history and pharmacogenetics. However, there are important challenges to the achievement of scalable personalized medicine supported by CDS. Moving forward, it will be important for research and policy efforts in this area to systematically consider and address each of these challenges so as to facilitate the realization of a more efficient, effective, and personalized approach to health and healthcare supported by CDS.
