Abstract

This chapter discusses energy and environmental analysis of wind energy systems. The performance of wind energy systems has been found to vary over a wide range. Therefore, need of such energy and emission analysis for each site has been felt. It is also recommended that energy and emission analysis based comparison of different available wind energy systems with themselves should also be done before recommending suitability of any particular system as suitability is found to be site specific. A general comparison of results for India and Germany indicates that both the countries have tremendous potential for resource conservation and greenhouse gas abatement through use of wind energy based systems for power generation. The chapter addresses that this type of studies can be used for making choice of energy system, but overall energy and global warming scenario can be covered by extending such analysis toward a comprehensive dynamic energy and emission analysis.
