Abstract
This chapter summarizes recent progress in transition-metal-free, multicomponent reactions of arynes. Most of these protocols employed Kobayashi aryne or HDDA aryne precursors. These developments illustrated many of the design principles used to realize a range of efficient methodologies and showcase the capabilities of leveraging aryne chemistry in generating structurally diverse functionalized arenes. For the sake of convenience, the 126 reports are divided into three sections based on the way how MCRs were initiated. The critical goal of this chapter was to draw attention to this fascinating research area and inspire further interests from the synthetic community in discovering new transformations as well as multidisciplinary applications.
