Abstract

State-of-the-art omics approaches embrace genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics for studying various biological systems. Advances in omics technology have facilitated the alteration in genes and biomolecules meticulously, bringing about substantial expansion of metabolic databases and resources. This chapter delivers a comprehensive overview of methods being employed in various omics approaches that help in better understanding of how different factors affect phenotypic traits, metabolic processes, and biosynthetic pathways in plants. However, these omics technologies are high-throughput with enormous outputs and therefore are integrated with computational tools for effective analysis of data. Consequently, we illustrate about utility of bioinformatics in accessing available data by providing several useful links. Various omics technologies are directly correlated with computational tools and databases which not only provide genetic data but also provide transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, and phenomics data. Omics linked with bioinformatics tools have opened new avenues to identify and characterize all biomolecules involved in the structural and functional dynamics of biological systems. Collectively, we address key omics approaches being applied in plant biology and bioinformatics databases linked with them.
