Abstract

This chapter presents the role of sample preparation and includes the preliminary processing of the sample such as sample homogenization, drying, sample dissolution resampling for further reduction of sample size, and green approaches in sample preparation. It also describes several routine manipulations of the sample such as weighing volume measuring dilution, and preservation of sample integrity during processing. This chapter also discusses general concepts regarding sample cleanup and fractionation, concentration of the sample, chemical modifications of the sample, and the selection of a sample preparation procedure. The last part of this chapter is dedicated to automation and high throughput in sample preparation.
