Abstract

Natural resources and their governance, both individually and as interacting systems, are complex in nature and there is a need for fresh ways of framing problems related to sustainable consumption of these natural resources. Recognizing and addressing the cross-scale dynamics in designing and implementing an effective natural resources governance arrangement still remains a major challenge for researchers and practitioners. To understand the human-nature relationship with proper recognition of outside organizations, economic, and sociopolitical forces will essentially require a combination of approaches, methods, and techniques. This chapter summarizes the methodologies used to assess multilevel governance of natural resources and cross-scale coordination and application of multimethods in natural resources management.
