Abstract
This chapter primarily reviews the available literature in the field under study. Accordingly, it will account for the definitions of concepts and issues that affect preventing cooperative black hole attacks in mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) with ad hoc on demand distance vector routing protocol (AODV) routing protocol. The first part of this chapter will delve on describing wireless networks, ad hoc networks, and MANETs. The second part of this chapter will present different protocols in MANET and will more explain AODV routing protocol. The third part of this chapter will deal with existing vulnerabilities and attacks that are related to AODV routing protocols in MANETs and will explain in detail about black hole attack. The fourth part and the final part of this chapter will review earlier works related to black hole attack detection in MANETs using AODV routing protocol.
