Abstract

Although there are common purposes and applications of normative databases in clinical science, nonetheless, each type of normative database poses its own special requirements and details. This chapter focuses on quantitative electroencephalographic (QEEG) normative databases. The goal of this chapter is to present the history of the application of scientific standards as they apply to QEEG, and to provide a practical guide for the understanding and evaluation of QEEG normative databases. The chapter illustrates a step-by-step procedure by which any normative EEG database can be validated and sensitivities calculated.
