Abstract

This chapter is dedicated to butterfly valves, which are used for stopping and starting the flow as a cheaper option compared to ball valves. This chapter provides relatively deep and detailed review of different critical metallic and soft components in this type of valve. Different types of butterfly valves according to the American Petroleum Institute (API) standard are reviewed in this chapter. Different aspects of butterfly valve design such as bore, flow capacity, end connections to the piping system, torque requirement, and interlocking are included. There are many pictures from rubber-lined, double and triple offset and extended welded end butterfly valves to be used in liquefied natural gas (LNG) plants. This chapter addresses different requirements of this valve more than design such as lifting, tagging and marking, testing as well as packing and preservation.
