Abstract

This chapter gives an overview of various process steps involved in additive manufacturing (AM), followed by a brief description of specific AM technologies that are capable of producing metal parts and details of the two major AM techniques: powder bed fusion and directed energy deposition. Other AM processes, such as sheet lamination and binder jetting are also discussed. The effects of various process parameters, defects that are encountered in AM, process control, and in situ monitoring are then addressed. The chapter concludes with a discussion on the postprocessing of AM parts.
