Abstract

Pollution of water resources is a very well-known phenomenon in recent years. The most domineering issues are the conservation, protection, and maintenance of water resources (surface or groundwater) from various sources of pollutants (point and nonpoint sources). With the progression of urbanization and industrialization, the protection of water resources is becoming more stringent. Thus, protecting water sources from pollution is an important issue shared by everyone: the public, industrialists, scientists, researchers, and decision-makers. This chapter analyzes in more detail natural contamination of water resources, the impact of mining on water resources, salt water intrusion, and industrial pollution. Emphasis is placed on persuasive contributors to contamination, multiple natural contamination processes, causes of salt water intrusion, seawater intrusion approach, factors affecting mining, industrial wastewater removal practices, and adding maximum allowable limits for industrial pollutants for the disposal of industrial waste in the process of their detection and processing.
