Abstract

In two parts, the chapter covers the main legislation, purpose, construction features, and usage of anechoic cells in noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) testing and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing of automotive powertrains, subassemblies, and vehicles. Health, safety, and fire suppression considerations particular to these types of cell are discussed. Part 1A provides important background information on NVH testing and legislation. Part 1B covers the technical requirements of acoustic anechoic cells. Part 2A covers the complex legislative environment in which EMC testing takes place, and Part 2B onwards covers the tests, cell structures and equipment required for EMC test procedures.
