Abstract

Breast cancer is a heterogeneous complex abnormality for which the number of cases is constantly increasing. Early detection of breast cancer followed by treatment can significantly improve clinical outcomes. Although considerable advances have been achieved in cancer therapy, breast cancer treatment remains challenging and effective novel therapies to combat such cancers are required. Nanotheranostics is a platform that is used for simultaneous diagnosis, cancer therapy, and monitoring of the therapeutic response. A nanotheranostic system is useful for the evaluation and optimization of drug release. These nanosystems can be additionally functionalized with targeting ligands to enable them to be used for site-specific diagnosis and therapeutic response. This chapter includes various drug carrier systems that have been used as nanotheranostics, targeted nanotheranostics applications, and their challenges in breast cancer therapy applications.
