Abstract
This chapter focuses on small and large bowel resection and anastomosis in the setting of gynecologic cancer surgery. Surgery on the intestinal tract is frequently necessary in patients with gynecologic cancers. Indications include not only the resection of disease but also treatment of bowel obstructions and other disease- or treatment-related complications. Mastering the technique of intestinal surgery is of importance because complications from intestinal surgery are devastating and unforgiving. Understanding the anatomy with the development of the correct surgical exposure, maintaining the blood supply and the innervation, achieving meticulous hemostasis, and minimizing tissue trauma form the basis for safe and successful intestinal surgery.
