Abstract

The concept of “Innovation Districts” is regarded as an emerging new urban paradigm; inspired from various theories of innovative urban restructuring process. However, in Neoliberalism era, the process of privatization has reduced the size of public housing units, the process has also induced more monopolistic approaches. The research chapter includes three sections; the first section flags on the literature pertaining to Innovation district as a problem-solver for current housing issues and derives nested approach of Innovation district as a housing solution. The second section reflects on the selection of Amravati since it possess a lot of potential to flourish as “Innovation District” may induced by policy regimes. Nearly, 15.6 Lakh houses are envisioned under first phase of development of Janganah Scheme, for which 10,234 crores is envisioned for land acquisition process. The third section explores the potentials of political intent, business environment, start-up ecosystem, and other factors in Amravati.
