Abstract

This chapter illustrates a novel intelligent battery charge controller (BCC) for standalone photovoltaic system. The BCC is based on 8052 microcontroller and includes a DC/DC converter as being interface between PV generator and storage battery. The main features of BCC include maximum power tracking for battery charging and real time state of charge (SOC) monitoring. The chapter also describes the concept and the experimental results for this alternative design. From these obtained experimental results, it is proved that the intelligent control of the battery state of charge during the two cycles provides excellent results. To refine and validate these convenient results, more important measurements in longer period are necessary that takes into account numerous other influential considerations.
