Abstract

To enter the current halal market, many biotechnology companies are transforming their production processes to comply with the halal supply chain (HSC). Halal products with the application of contemporaneous biotechnology must meet the requirements of Islamic Shariah compliance. The halal biotechnology products should entail the implementation of the basic halal principles in the production process from farm to fork. Thus HSC management is of fundamental importance in ensuring the halal integrity of the biotechnology product. The integrity of halal biotechnology products must be studied from the perspective of HSC compliance rather than as an individual entity. Therefore this chapter provides an insight into the production of halal product with recent biotechnological applications to maintain the HSC compliance. Furthermore, this chapter also focuses on the integrity risk of biotechnology products in line with the HSC.
