Abstract

The rising demand for water because of economic and social growth across the globe has compelled the researchers to develop economical technologies for water purification. In the past few decades, ion exchange (IEX) materials have transformed from laboratory to industrials use with enormous commercial impact. The challenges associated with the IEX materials have attracted the interest of various researchers to devise approaches to improve the properties of IEX materials; one of the most popular approaches being the usage of nanomaterials as reinforcement in the matrix of IEX materials. This chapter summarizes the recent advancements in nanocomposite IEX materials for water purification. Finally, the opportunities and challenges in the synthesis and application of nanocomposite IEX materials are identified.
