Abstract

This chapter focuses on torsades de pointes in the cancer population. We will discuss considerations in the measurement of QT intervals given the therapeutic impact this could have on chemotherapy selection and the pathophysiology of QT interval prolongation in this patient population. We then discuss in detail various cancer chemotherapy agents and their association with QT interval prolongation and torsades de pointes, highlighting potential mechanisms of their impact on cardiac repolarization, where known. Finally, we will describe the management of QT interval prolongation and torsades de pointes in patients with cancer.
