Abstract

Objectives To identify and understand the unique roles and responsibilities that parents, students, community members, and professionals play in the organization and execution of a school‐based bullying prevention program. To identify and understand how to strengthen school‐based bullying prevention efforts through outreach and incorporation of various partners. To identify and understand the procedures parents and school officials should take to resolve bullying situations, including cyberbullying. To identify and understand how to prevent a bullying event from becoming a chronic condition and what can be done if it reaches that point. In this chapter, the term parent refers to anyone who is responsible for the primary care of a child. This person may be a biological parent, a stepparent, guardian, grandparent, or other family caregiver. The goal of this chapter is to help educators and parents work together to prevent bullying and resolve bullying situations successfully. This chapter will also include a section detailing how school officials can interact with the community to broaden and enhance their bullying prevention efforts.
