Abstract
Large-scale food fortification (LSFF) has the potential to reach large segments of vulnerable populations using existing food delivery systems. It does this by reengineering food systems and optimizing markets and supply chains. However, LSFF does not have one natural home in the food or health system and thus requires coordinated efforts by multisectors. Fortunately, the intervention has gone to scale and demonstrated much success due to systemic partnership between business, government, and civil society. For example, multisectoral National Fortification Alliances (NFAs) have been critical to catalyze and coordinate dozens of national fortification programs. This chapter reviews the success of NFAs as well as other tools, frameworks, and platforms for collaboration in food fortification. It then looks at gaps and opportunities to improve collaboration and deliver more fortified foods to those who need them.
