Abstract

The healthcare sector is beginning to transform from a doctor-centric and manual mode of recording to electronic healthcare records and patient-centric. Today, with the internet of things, smart healthcare through digital sensors, nanotechnology, fog computing, cloud computing, and telemedicine innovations produces and exchanges data across different stakeholders. In addition to building platforms that run on this data in Smart Healthcare, this improvement in information management creates the way for better data collection and improves Healthcare Services through the application of the technologies. However, Security and privacy in smart healthcare systems (SHS) require adequate attention against unsuspecting assaults, security attacks, and threats. The escape of private data can impact negatively on the individual life, including abuse, high insurance rates, and loss of jobs resulting from medical information leaks. As a result, information protection and safety are critical, and if not curtained can raise the likelihood of privacy violations, vulnerability, and risk breaches. Although the different SHS is still growing and evolving, existing privacy and security analysis reveals that there is no concrete convergence and consolidation of security and privacy that encourages the acceptance of the SHS by consumers due to fear of personal data exposure. The purpose of this chapter is to provide a detailed discussion on the state of the art of SHS, with a special emphasis on what has been achieved in the areas of privacy and security, threats, and protection mechanisms. It also describes and addresses the user’s basic security and privacy needs and concerns about SHS specifications and problems. The chapter recommends an attack nomenclature to approach defense criteria from a greater perception. As a result, infuses the new privacy and security advances in SHS addresses open problems, and discuss areas for future study.
