Abstract

In this chapter, the history of sabermetrics (defined as “the search for objective knowledge about baseball”) is introduced, as well as its way into the classroom. Several matrices assist in illustrating the importance of statistics in this sport. Various “old” measures are presented along with an algorithm that outlines sabermetric reasoning. References, websites, and an informal bibliography are given as well. The chapter ends with “20 Questions” regarding this topic.
