Abstract

This chapter reveals that the Java Data Mining(JDM) extensible markup language (XML) schema provides a comprehensive data model for JDM objects. It follows the same design principles and object model as the application programming interface (API) to maintain consistency between the API and the schema. The JDM Schema provides the same level of extensibility as that of the API for JDM implementations to support vendor-specific extensions. XML is becoming the ubiquitous choice for data representation in a machine-readable format and for data exchange. The JDM standard uses an interface-based approach to provide data mining vendors greater flexibility while implementing JDM functionality. However, the lack of a standard data model causes interoperability issues for exchanging JDM objects between implementations. The JDM schema fills this gap by defining a standard data model using XML for JDM objects. The chapter further discusses the JDM Schema types and structure of its elements in detail, and provides illustrations of using the Predictive Model Markup Language with the JDM Schema.
