Abstract

In recent years tDCS has been used to modulate attention, including the search for novel therapeutic options in brain-lesioned patients suffering from neglect. Although limited in number, current tDCS studies address a wide range of aspects of attention. With respect to future clinical applications, however, a more systematic theory-based approach is desired. The three networks of attention model, described by Michael Posner (1980), provides a useful framework. In order to avoid neglecting other relevant aspects of attention, we additionally discuss aspects of visual search and visual selection. With regard to neglect, two studies suggest the potential of tDCS for future application in these patients.
