Abstract

Pyridines and their derivatives are under investigation by many organic chemists because of their physiological and biological importance. Pyridine derivatives exist in large number of alkaloids and drugs due to their nitrogenous heterocyclic nature. Therefore, the synthesis of these pyridine derivatives through a convenient and simple approach is vital for synthetic organic chemistry. Multicomponent reactions (MCRs) are used to synthesize these complex moieties in a single step with a reduction in harmful organic waste, and hence have attracted particular attention by many organic chemists. This chapter covers the synthesis of simple pyridine derivatives by MCRs.
