Abstract
Artificial Pancreas (AP) systems that automate the treatment of insulin dependent diabetes have been the target of intensive research efforts since the late 1970s. While many different AP concepts have been proposed, all AP systems rely on the availability of a reliable stream of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) data. As CGM-only AP systems have proven to be safe and effective in large clinical studies, as well as in commercial settings, researchers are now looking for ways to improve AP systems by including other sensing modalities. This chapter seeks to introduce the reader to recent literature on such Multiple-Signal Artificial Pancreas (MSAP) systems.
