Abstract

Developments in multicomponent reaction (MCR) strategies have revealed new insights and possibilities to prepare elaborate and complex molecular scaffolds. Considering the prominent advantages of this strategy, the introduction of one or more chalcogen atoms in different molecules by MCRs is a green way to access compounds with structural versatility and potential biological activity. In this chapter, we present a brief overview of the development of fast and experimentally simple methods for the preparation of organochalcogen compounds by MCRs, such as (1) chalcogen-functionalized heterocycles; (2) heterocycles with chalcogen embedded in the ring; (3) selenoethers; (4) vinyl chalcogenides; (5) phosphorus derivatives, and (6) miscellaneous structures.
