Abstract
Dermatology is one of the most important medical specialties. The prevalence of skin diseases exceeds that of obesity, hypertension, and cancer added together. Skin disease accounts for 12.4% of primary care visits in the United States, and it is estimated that one out of three people in the United States has a skin disease at any given time. Although the skin is perfectly accessible to traditional medical examination, this does not mean that there are no important problems that impede effective diagnosis of skin diseases and monitoring of therapies for dermatological disorders. This book sets out to summarize the use of modern techniques in medical imaging in dermatology.
